Streaming doesn’t pay artists much, so artists need to tour more to make a living. More gigs, more income—right?
Not always. Touring costs are eating up more and more of what artists earn from their shows. One of the biggest expenses: hotels. Take a look at this tour budget.
Fan Alliance members can help. If you have extra rooms that artists could stay in while they come through your town, you can make a real difference. I’ve done it myself. It really helps.
In 2026, Fan Alliance is partnering with Salt Lick Incubator to launch The Fan Alliance Village, a Homestay Network for Touring Artists.
We’re starting as a pilot program by helping one or two touring Salt Lick artists in the first half of the year. Homestays can literally make the difference between an artist making or losing money on tour. Salt Lick artists have been carefully selected by a panel of artists and professionals including Jon Batiste, Susan Tedeschi, and Patrice Rushen.
Why “The Village”? We believe it takes a village to nurture an artist project and build a sustainable music economy that works for both artists and fans.
Homestays can literally make the difference between an artist making or losing money on tour.
We’re looking for hosts who have extra rooms, spaces, or vacant rentals that give artists privacy to rest between shows.
Your commitment: We’ll ask you just once or twice per year (more if you’d like).
Privacy protected: Hosts and artist teams will be connected directly with each other to coordinate stays. Neither host nor artist information will be shared publicly.
Interested? Fill out this simple Google Form if interested or want to learn more and we’ll be in touch with more details, answer questions and get your ideas.
This is a new project, so your questions will help us work out the kinks and set up good systems.
Can’t host but still want to help? You can make a donation to Fan Alliance to support project expenses.
